Part 2 - 4/12/2014

"Dog, what are you doing here?!" the cat spat, trying to hide her homesickness and loneliness. "I thought you were going to stay with the Owner, because I thought you were 'so wonderful'."

The dog could not bring himself to look at her, and answered in a weak, dejected tone "Cat, i'm sorry... It was all my fault, wasn't it? I'm the one who made you left, wasn't I?"

"W-what...?" The cat's tone started to soften, Dog was actually feeling sad and guilty. "But... why didn't you care? If you really care about me, why did you just let me leave?"

"I thought it would be better that way. I thought I didn't need you as a friend." Dog whispered, beginning to shudder with cold. A small chick, originally aflutter, hid under an overhanging roof, as it began to pour down rain.

"Dog, we need to find shelter," Cat warned, her fur quickly becoming sopping wet. Helping Dog up, they scampered into the nearest building they could find. It had a heating system, so for a short few minutes, the two were huddled together, dripping water pooling under their feet.

"Cat, can... can we go back to owner? Y'know, when the rain lets up?" Dog asked, his eyes clouded with loneliness.

"I don't think we can go back now. You may think everything is your fault, but..." the Cat paused, her voice lowering sadly. "...us not being able to go back is mine. I- I had told Owner I was never coming back. I had told him I was sick of living with him and you."

But, before Dog could reply, they heard footsteps upon the floor, and gazing up they found a kindly young woman. "Oh, how could two poor lost critters like you get into the Wild-and-Pet-Store?" she asked, mostly to herself, as she could not understand the animals. Picking up the two and scooping them into separate cages, she realized it was time to open the store. Walking over and flipping the sign to open, she sat and waited by the cash register, waiting for the day's customers.

Eventually, an old man, who was somewhat erratic in his manners and with a tank of guppies swimming happily strapped to his back, wandered in, and asked the lady if there were any animals in need today.

"Oh, good ol' Joe!" she said, happily. "Nice to see you still up and about and giving homes to poor animals. For the most part, there's still mostly happy, healthy animals waiting for owners, but there's two more newcomers who I think are desperately think are in need of a home." She led Joe to the cages with Cat and Dog, the two staring sadly outside of their cages. "The two poor scraps seem to just have stumbled in somehow, which is strange as the door wasn't open!" the lady explained, with Joe seeming to be interested in Cat.

"I only have enough room for one more pet right now," Joe said. "My bunch is a handful as is. But can I have this little one?" The lady nodded, as Joe then handed over the cash, picking up Cat's cage, along with a large bag of cat food.

Cat yowled sadly, "Dog! No!" However, the man, being a human, could not understand.

"Cat... i'll get back to you someday!" Dog replied, knowing his words were probably little consolation. TO BE CONTINUED IN PART 3.

And then never ever again. Oh well !
